True Twins - Almog Sella & Itamar Toren
Visual Communication
Emerging Designer Award
"We come from different worlds of content with complementary skills and the meeting between us allows us to create more complex works together, to deepen and refine each other. Our visual style changes from project to project, we work from a concept and not from a language. We treat technique in a dynamic way, and enjoy seeking new language in various creative fields, our work ranges from design in motion, classic animation, craft material creation, 3D modeling, videography, and combinations of different techniques to a unique and complete product."
Itamar Toran and Almog Sella are a creative duo, a man and a woman, who started their collaboration as part of their visual communication studies at Bezalel. They specialize in motion design and apply it in works that combine video, design, concept and art. They draw inspiration from contemporary culture, global design trends, changes in visual communication, and the field of art and cinema. Together they strive to explore and deepen their connection to Israeli culture, while contributing to local creation. They are interested in developing innovative points of view in the Israeli creative world, and helping the Israeli story to go out into the world.
The jury panel’s decision:
"The Edmond de Rothschild Design Award is granted to Almog Sella and Itamar Toren—Studio True Twins—for their fascinating and radical work as designers in film, television, and music.
Their extensive range of work serves as a model for commercial creation that, while largely intended for wide distribution, maintains a bold, avant-garde, and experimental quality. Their efforts in developing visual language, dramaturgy, and artistic design exemplify a creative process that delicately balances collaboration with other creators and relies on a deep understanding of the content of each project. They manage to refine elements from the content that illuminate unexpected and additional layers of the original work. The field of design practiced by the studio is a dynamic and significant arena, gaining increasing importance both in Israel and globally. Within this field, True Twins uphold thorough, thoughtful, and critical work processes, adopting a holistic approach rooted in the content they react to. The duo works courageously, unafraid to experiment with entirely different styles, tools, and scales in every project. They seamlessly present works spanning photography, animation, miniature construction, illustration, editing, motion graphics, traditional craftsmanship, and innovative techniques. These endeavors create a powerful visual language, a distinct fingerprint, and the unique vision of a young studio.
Sella and Toren are carving a new path in the field, reflecting their deep understanding of contemporary trends and continuously examining their role within the discipline. Their approach is interdisciplinary, and they present their work clearly and accessibly. For this, the committee has chosen to award Almog Sella and Itamar Toren the 2024 Edmond de Rothschild Award 2024 for Visual Communication Design in the Emerging Designers category".
