IOTA (Tal Zur)
Product Design
"In my view, design is the bridge between humanity and technology. It makes innovation accessible while carrying a growing responsibility. In fifty years, we won’t be able to ignore the consequences of unchecked acceleration. Designers must actively engage in these challenges - now. At IOTA, we see designers as activists”
IOTA was founded in 2014 by visionary Shula Mozes and designer Tal Zur, with the aspiration to merge social design and innovation through craft. Zur, a product designer and graduate of HIT, is now a senior lecturer at the department, as well as a graduate of the Tel Aviv Museum curatorial program and the Peres Academic Center and Harvard leadership programs. She serves as the studio’s Creative Director and CEO. The brand celebrates handcraft, with a focus on crochet, and provides dignified employment to women in underprivileged communities around the world - Bedouin women in Israel, Syrian refugees, Turkish mothers, and Indian nomads.
The studio team includes Dorit Chessler, Noa Kuriel, Tami Eilat, Chen Bugin, Lena Maikon, and Sofi Yaffe - together, they lead the company with a strong belief in action and meaningful social change. IOTA operates as an innovative startup where craft is the technology, aiming to prove that creativity, culture, and handwork are powerful forces for deep social transformation.
IOTA (Tal Zur) was nominated for the 2025 Edmond de Rothschild Design Award for Established Product Designer.
