Yael Harnik
Textile,Fashion & Jewerly Design
Independent textile designer Yael Harnik graduated from the Textile Design department at Shenkar College of Engineering, Design and Art, interned at Tory Burch in New York, trained as a textile designer at a French company in Vietnam and worked as a designer for Israeli swimwear manufacturer Gottex for 3 years. She earned her master’s degree and PhD in art at Tama Art University, Tokyo. She specializes in traditional Japanese dyeing techniques, with particular interest in production processes that are based on repetition, require expert skill, and are time consuming.
Learning the fundamentals of craft techniques and specializing in them is of tremendous importance to Harnik. Knowledge of the methodology endows each work with content and meaning. She is particularly interested in using strictly natural materials and in producing textile prints without the use of mechanical instruments. By that, she is acting out of intuitive interest, but also out of awareness of the changes taking place in the world and out of personal responsibility.
Harnik was nominated for the 2022 Edmond de Rothschild Design Award for Emerging Fashion, Textile, and Jewelry Designers.
